Educated in a one-room schoolhouse in an Adirondack village, Dr. Gloria Schrager became a doctor when a scant 4% of the medical profession was female, and bias against women physicians was common.

Her medical career has ranged from private practice, to Director of Pediatrics at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ, to Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. Schrager has been a frequent speaker at book clubs and book fairs, addressing how she faced down bias, shrugged off harassment, and beat the odds to become a leader in a male-dominated profession.

She is the author of The Complex Life of a Woman Doctor - Medicine and Motherhood, which describes her struggle to become a doctor when women physicians were the exception, and Rebecca and Her Brothers, a novel about her childhood adventures.
